Compliance questions

When does EU AI Act enforcement begin?

Full enforcement begins August 2, 2026. However, some provisions are already in effect. Organizations should start preparing now to ensure compliance by the deadline.

What AI systems are covered by the EU AI Act?

The Act applies to AI systems used in the EU, regardless of where the provider is based. High-risk AI systems (including many business-critical applications) have the strictest requirements.

What documentation does Article 14 require?

Article 14 requires human oversight capabilities and documentation showing that humans can understand, intervene in, and override AI decisions. Empress captures this automatically.

Can I use Empress for SOC 2 audits?

Yes. Empress provides automated evidence collection for Trust Services Criteria. You can generate audit-ready reports that demonstrate your AI systems' security, availability, and processing integrity.

How long are records retained?

Platform tier and above includes unlimited retention. You control how long records are kept. EU AI Act requires records be kept for at least 6 months after the system is withdrawn.

18 months until enforcement
